NotworkingQuick overview
Online forums, networking sites, discussion groups, bulletin boards and the like can be very addictive. Sometimes you think to yourself "I'll just go and have a quick read of some blogs" intending to spend a few minutes on your coffee break, but suddenly you look up and hours have passed. Wouldn't it be nice to have a reminder that you are wasting time? Announcing "Notworking", the mini-application that sits on your screen and keeps a track of the time you spend when you should be doing something else - like earning a living. It's free, simple and effective; it even comes with it's own installer. It's based on an idea by Lydia Bates of The Artfinder Gallery - quite possibly the UK's best notworker. If you find Notworking useful, I'd appreciate it if you would add a comment to my blog entry about notworking. Feel free to share with your friends and colleagues. And finally: Notworking recently got a writeup on Forbes.com and as a result lots of people are linking here, which is great. But please could I ask that if you link here, that you link to this page and don't link to the download directly? Thanks. InstructionsDownload and install1) Download the installer here: Notworking 2) Save it to your computer, then double-click on the downloaded file to run the installer. The installer will guide you through the very brief installation process. Just drag it somewhere convenient on your desktop and it will tick away counting the time you are wasting online. MenusRight click on the Notworking form, and the following menu appears:
SettingsClicking on Settings opens the settings form:
Here you can change the currency symbol and the rate per hour in your chosen currency. Checking the Always On Top checkbox will make Notworking stay on top of all other programs, and checking Cumulative means that Notworking will remember all the time you have wasted the next time it runs. Reset ClockIf it's all getting too depressing, you can click on Reset Clock to set the timer back to zero. Pause TimerClicking on Pause Timer stops the timer. As a reminder, Notworking will turn grey to remind you to stop working as soon as possible. To start the timer again, just open the menu again and click again on Pause Timer. Notworking will restart the clock and turn back to a nice shade you post-it yellow. ExitCloses Notworking. Notworking will remember your settings, and if you checked the Cumulative checkbox on the Settings page then the next time you begin Notworking it will begin counting from where it left off last time.
